Pasadena Civic Auditorium
300 E Green St, Pasadena, CA 91101-2308
The talents and passions of three amazing award-winning troupes will be on display when "Journey of the Monkey King" flies into the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. You'll see the Hsin Lei Dance Academy reviving the ancient dance of Taiwan's mountain tea ceremonies. The members of the Rom Shing Opera Troupe will perform martial arts, acrobatics, dance and song. There'll also be music by the Sun Concert, featuring professional musicians and choir singers from America and Taiwan. This charity concert will help raise funds for ground-breaking, innovative cancer research worldwide. All of the performances share a common thread: tea. Tea is known for its strong cancer-fighting antioxidant nature and Taiwan is one of the world's premiere tea growers. Keeping with that theme, the event will be emceed by author-filmmaker Kailin Gow, who wrote "The Perfect Cup: TEA Guide" and hosts a forthcoming travel and food show on the subject.
