Airdrop Biography
What a long, strange trip it's been!
Since we formed a few years back it's been eventful - full of lucky escapes, disappearances, a drunken fence impaling, unexpected pregnancies and being pepper-sprayed by an undercover policeman... but these are stories for another day.
Let's start at the beginning. Airdrop was formed when Ruben replied to Andy's online ad looking for musicians to start a band. Ruben had played to large crowds in his native Spain and after he got some compensation from a random accident (I think a roof fell on him?!) he finally had some money to make the jump and move to London.
The first time they met, Ruben's English wasn't that great, so they communicated by saying names of the bands they loved, which turned out to be exactly the same.
After that they started writing songs together in a small apartment and Airdrop was born. After a couple changes we arrived at the amazing lineup we have today. Tom Simpson on vocals, Al Briggs on bass, Dave Lowe on drums and Andy & Ruben sharing guitar duties.
So what kind of music do we play? It's something that's always difficult to put into words, especially without sounding too pretentious.
But simply put, we play high-energy rock n roll with groove. It's fast, exciting rock with a real swing, and funk, punk & blues seeping in.
We pride ourselves on the energy and excitement of our live shows. Al, the complete opposite of the stereo typical immovable bassist, can be seen jumping from bar tops or playing on fans’ shoulders.
Our debut album, Serotonin Sunrise, is now out on Spotify and iTunes - http://bit.ly/serotoninsunrise
The lead single, Victoria, gained airplay on local radio around England, Scotland and even the Netherlands.
We've gigged at some great venues including The Camden Assembly (Barfly), Hope & Anchor as part of the Oxjam Islington Festival, Nambucca, The Crowndale, The Alley Cat and The Fiddler's Elbow with our first Brighton show early 2017.
Cheers!
