Explore and witness the site-specific music created by Artist in Residence Ryan Edwards at the [re]creation Open Studio on Spectacle Island!
Bring your family and friends to engage in this one-of-a-kind live performance, where the artist will compose songs using sampled sounds from the natural environment and various electronic instruments, as well as from instruments built using Island materials.
Boston Harbor Now’s [re]creation art exhibits encapsulate the natural wonders the Harbor Islands provide, while offering diverse attractions for children, adults and families.
Be sure to spend some extra time discovering the wonders of Spectacle Island, which offers five miles of hiking trails, ranger tours, a life-guarded swimming beach, boating activities and a Visitor Center with historical exhibits. The Island is a quick 20-minute ferry ride from downtown Boston and is open from dawn until dusk through October 9, 2017.
Bring your own lunch or grab a bite at Salt Water Lobster Co., located in the Visitor Center on the Island. Snacks and beverages are also available to purchase on the ferry.
Boats leave Long Wharf North at 9:30, 10:15, 10:30, 11:30, and 1:30.
Although the Open Studios is free, it is highly recommended that you purchase tickets for the ferry ahead of time, as they do sell out. Schedules and online ticketing can be found at http://bostonharborcruises.com/harbor-islands
Ryan Edwards is a Boston-based composer and interdisciplinary artist, as well as the co-founder and drummer of Afro-Beat band Federator N°1 with a background in West African drum and dance, jazz and new-music composition. He is a New Music America Grant Recipient, and travels the world to make people dance to his multi-genre music and art.
