The Battle of Santiago combines classic Afro-Cuban rhythms and vocals with a distinctly Canadian post-rock spirit and sensibility. While Canada is seldom thought of as a Latin music hotbed, Toronto hosts many thriving immigrant communities, including one of the largest Cuban expat communities in North America. The band grew from experimental rock grounded in Latin percussion to an instrumental groove machine, then finally to the tight Afro-Cuban post-rock outfit that it is today. Featuring two bilingual vocalists, Magedelys Savgine and Zamira Lacosta, The Battle of Santiago is poised to speak to a large and diverse audience, including lyrics addressing the messy lives and identities of so many immigrants and refugees. Touring in support of their latest album, "La Migra", the band's Revolucion Perpetua multimedia show, developed with chilean-born artist/designer Patricio Davila, integrates digital visual art, live musical performance and audience interaction for an impressive sensory experience at Levitt Pavilion in Los Angeles.
