As part of the San Francisco Symphony's celebration of Leonard Bernstein's centennial, Maestro Michael Tilson Thomas conducts a concert version of his comic operetta "Candide", complete with acclaimed vocalists and chorus at Davies Hall. A true American legend, Bernstein may be best known for Broadway musicals like "West Side Story" and "On the Town", but "Candide"'s proven popular over the years too, as it details a madcap odyssey around the world. Originally adapted from Voltaire's famed novel, the naïve titular hero sets off to find his one true love, the beautiful Cunegonde, while enduring a series of comic misadventures that take him through wars, plagues, pirates, swindlers and even the Spanish Inquisition. Along the journey you'll be treated to renditions of such memorable tunes as "Glitter and Be Gay," "Make Our Garden Grow" and "The Best of All Possible Worlds," performed by Jay Armstrong Johnson, Meghan Picerno and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus.
