Featuring GLENN JONES, IS@S@ GUITARRA (f/ Madrid), ROBERT NOYES, JOSEPH ALLRED, & WENDY EISENBERG.American Primitive Guitar is a music genre which was first originated by John Fahey in the late 1950s/early 1960s. Although increasingly confused in recent years, American Primitive Guitar is distinct and different from American Primitivism, which refers to certain painting and sculptural art forms which arose in the 1890s.American Primitive Guitar began when John Fahey first composed and recorded avant-garde/neo-classical compositions using traditional country blues fingerpicking techniques, which had previously been used primarily to accompany vocals. Fahey was joined in the genre by Leo Kottke, Peter Walker, and Peter Lang throughout the 1960s and 1970s, all of whom played at one time or another on Fahey's Takoma Records label along with uncategorizable artists such as Robbie Basho.Glenn Jones is a master of American Primitive Guitar, a style invented in the late 1950s by John Fahey, whose traditional fingerpicking techniques and wide-ranging influences were used to create modern original compositions. Jones, who led the post-rock ensemble Cul de Sac, brings his own made-up tunings, the use of custom-crafted partial capos, and a highly skilled picking style on both banjo and guitar, to create personal compositions that are lyrical, emotive and elegant. What sets him apart from the myriad guitarists playing today is his ability to tell stories with the guitar and banjo, and to convey a range of emotions. This process starts with the compositions themselves and carries through to his selection of recording environment and engineer. http://www.thrilljockey.com/artists/glenn-jonesIs@s@ Guitarra is a guitarist and composer based in Madrid. He has been an active member of the city’s underground music scene since the early 90’s. He has performed all over Spain as a solo artist and was a former member of Spanish cult band A Room with a View (1997-2003). His music is strongly inspired by the American primitive guitarists, such as John Fahey, Glenn Jones and Jack Rose. He is touring the USA promoting a new LP called "Los días"https://isasa.bandcamp.com/lacastanya.bandcamp.com/album/los-d-asJoseph Allred's guitar style falls in line with Robbie Basho, not only in his 12 string playing that clearly has a leaning towards eastern musical traditions and droning free form raga but also in his educational background in Philosophy and Religious studies. He has been very quietly putting out records for years, never self promoting any of them and painstakingly designing and hand priniting most of the packaging for the LP’s and cassettes he puts out. There’s a sincerity in Allred’s music and way of life that has been missing from modern life for a long time.http://www.knoxmercury.com/2015/10/01/guitarist-joseph-allred-explores-the-american-primitive-sound/Somerville based Robert Noyes seems to have absorbed an almost infinite reservoir of influences. Apart from some superb Robbie Basho-like 12-string tunneling, Noyes' playing also tends to recall legendary English guitarists like John Renbourn and Davey Graham. https://soundcloud.com/robnoyesWendy Eisenberg, a native of Washington, DC, is a guitarist, bajo player, singer, and composer.
