Singer & the Scientist Biography
Singer & the Scientist is an American electronic-pop duo from Los Angeles. The band consists of Kenley Shea (lead vocals, additional synthesizers) and Steve Channell (synthesizers, guitar, samplers, vocals). They emit a modern synth-pop sound with traces of electronic dance and indie alternative.
Shea and Channell were next door neighbors living in LA, both working on their own individual music endeavors. After a year of becoming friends, she asked him to record her vocals for a pop song she was working on with someone else. They hit it off musically and started writing together. Shea was doing a lot of vocal session work, while Channell was busy working in technical production. Knowing they would need to play live and that they weren’t satisfied with boring shows, Channell started wiring, soldering, and building a complex live rig that could fulfill their artistic vision. Shea dubbed Channell the “mad scientist”, as he was always making cables and programming things. They joked about being Singer & the Scientist, and it stuck. They are currently promoting their debut album “Electric Heartbreak”.
