Hugh Macdonald Biography
Fairhazel has learnt a lot from the different cultures he grew up in. From the cobbled streets of Paris, the friendliness and openness of Cape Town to the introversion of London, what was apparent was that every city, every street and every person had a story to tell. To retell these stories through song is what Fairhazel set out to do. After being accepted to Berklee College of Music in Boston, he experienced a whole new culture and with it experiences that would inspire a new sound, folk music drawing lyrical and melodic influence from jazz and psychedelic music while maintaining an acoustic raw sound. A lot of the songs that Fairhazel writes usually come out of these odd experiences or a-ha moments, others being written in a sensory deprivation tank in East London, (Director’s Daughter), or building fictitious stories around the local 7/11 cashier (Eddie from 7/11), or based on the Tibetan Bardo Thodol text (7x7). He hopes people can connect with these stories in the same way they’d connect with a film, and get attached to characters and their journeys, be it through one or several songs. Fairhazel is the moniker for the artist Hugh Macdonald who has been releasing music for several years under his own name, doing performances for TEDx, Ronnie Scott's and Sofar as well as countless gigs across the US and the UK. Official page for Fairhazel. New music is always on the horizon.
