About this concert
Liverwrist return to Manchester on Thursday August 3rd to bring you a headline show at Grand Central, one of our favourite places in the world. Introducing a new line-up and in anticipation of our first EP 'The Dark Storm' later in the year, this is your chance to see our first full headline show of the year. Our friends Godhand will also be joining us and we will announce more acts in the very near future. So get down early, have a few beers and enjoy the show, because not only is it in one of our, and your, favourite places, but it's free entry too, aren't we good to you. Also Bernard says if you don't come down he will be upset, and you don't want to upset a Unicorn, even if he is a bit of a pink diva.

Liverwrist Biography

"Liverwrist are a Rock/Metal band based in Manchester, UK". Well hello there, so, I was going to write this Bio in the third-person ..but it just seems really fucking bizarre writing about myself in that way.. it's Kurt (Torevell) btw :) hi, how you doing? xx ..so yeah I'll start with the early years of Liverwrist, I'll try to keep this brief ..but you may want to grab a hot chocolate and slip into a unicorn onesie and get settled. Liverwrist (1992 - 2015): So I was around 12 or 13 in a maths lesson (math class) at secondary school (high school ..I hope these brackets are not patronising) when I came up with the name Liverwrist. The name: So there's been various versions of where the name came from, including mishearing the word Liquorice (sadly not true) ..the real origin is: instead of doing my classwork one day, I spent most of the lesson writing a list of possible band names for my fantasy (future) Rock/Metal band ..most of these names were just made up of two random words put together ..with "Liver" & "Wrist" being my favourite (the liquorice story/lie is slightly more interesting). Since then in my head "Liverwrist" was always meant to be a full band, influenced by 90s Rock & Metal bands, but this didn't happen until years later. Rock/Metal band V.1: In the 90s I wrote a bunch of Rock/Metal songs and jammed with various people in a bid to launch Liverwrist as a gigging band ..it really didn't work out :/ ..so I ended up recording a bunch of tapes (as a one man Liverwrist band) and passed them onto to various friends, then in 1997 I recorded a ridiculously crude "album" and paid to have it put on CD (only ten of these were made, and my own copy is scratched up to all fuckery) ..the only positive of this album was two songs would later be re-hashed with the 2015 - 2018 band as the intro to the song Rise, and bits of the song Last Time. wow.. I'm really going on a bit now aren't I ..I'll seriously try to stop waffling on ......maybe. er.. where was I upto?? Oh yeah...... Solo acoustic Liverwrist 2002 - 2007: So yeah after the Rock/Metal stuff I started to do all my folky acoustic stuff using the name Liverwrist, even playing some gigs around Manchester with some good support slots and airplay as Liverwrist, playing my last solo acoustic gig in 2007 (at FUEL, Manchester). Liverwrist 2008: In 2008 I wrote a heavy album as Liverwrist ..but for crappy personal reasons I got to around 80% completion then shelved the whole thing and quit music (oh I should point out that during 1992 and 2008, I was also writing, playing and gigging with a shitload of other bands, including: Incline, Ten Theta, Khime and Burn the Archives). Gary Wise: So it's fair to say that without the sexy bear of a man that is Mr Gary Wise I probably would still be in musical retirement. He really helped to pull me out of the shit and gave Liverwrist a massive kick up the arse Liverwrist THE BAND (2015 - 2018): So over the years me and Gary talked about doing a proper band together and in early 2015 we met up for coffee in Stockport Market and planned on doing the band together ..but again I was going through some personal shit, so just told Gary to go on ahead without me, this lead Gary to forming the Thrash Metal band Kadmium with Andy Lindley and Tomasz Mackiewicz ..after a lot of arm twisting and coffee meetings (and a drunken night playing Singstar together) I finally caved in and joined Kadmium ..BUT a lot of their songs were like fucking ten minute thrash metal instrumental epics with no room for vocals :P So we began to write together, simplified Rock/Metal songs that sounded a million miles away from Kadmium, BUT the first song we wrote "Broken Bones" sounded a lot like my sexy fantasy 90s style band "Liverwrist" :O ..so in November 2015 with Colin Torkington on Bass we wrote a bunch of new songs ..and changed our name, thereby starting a fresh as Liverwrist :P Unicorns: O.K. ...so the unicorn shit ..please let me explain.. so over the years I've played/sang in a few heavy bands and I got sick of having to act or look a certain way and be all shouty and angry on stage, when I'm nothing like that ..so I thought "fuck it ..I want to wear pink!! and have unicorns and ponies on stage". We all decided to just be ourselves onstage (kinda ..I don't always wear pink) and fuck around like we did at band practice, instead of putting on an act, trying to be moody or "Metal" or whatever. Amongst over genres I love Metal so for me it was also about the fact that you can be in a heavy band and just be yourself or just fuck about and act like a total dick with a pink fluffy unicorn if you want to. So in those 2 and a bit years we not only turned into Spinal Tap with two other drummers (the very awesome Rachel and the very all round lovely AJ - whom we wrote one of our best songs "Make It Out Alive" with) but we gigged solidly around the North-West, getting through to the semi-finals of "Bloodstock: Metal 2 the Masses" competition for two years running ..and met some really fucking cool people along the way :) End of an era: So from late 2017 and then entering 2018 we kinda hit a brickwall ..for seemingly no reason the songs weren't coming and (I really can't speak for the other members) but I was getting restless ..and a few of us wanted to move on to other projects, so we decided to leave it at that. The future of Liverwrist: So, that band WAS Liverwrist, exactly how I envisioned it as a kid ..and they contributed to the sound and were all fucking awesome, and without them, their talent and constantly kicking me up the arse whilst I tried to sort my shit out, Liverwrist as a live band would not have happened. I have a lot of other types of music I want to make ..BUT I cannot let go of Liverwrist ;) ..that name, the sound and what has been built up over the years means so much to me, so.... New music: Currently Liverwrist is (once again) a one-man-band/Studio-only project, I have already begun writing new Liverwrist music, ..but only this time I haven't got personal shit weighing me down, and I have the drive and passion again. Recording will begin in 2018, and may become an E.P. or even a full album ..then I will decide where to take things from there ..it might even become a fully fledged gigging band once again :) Thank you all for the continued support P.S.
