Sled Island, NMC and Femme Wave Present: Les Filles de Illighadad w/ Tispur, Hymn and HermitessLes Filles de IlighadadWith atmospheric acoustics emulating the open air of the desert they’re recorded in, Les Filles de Illighadad, comprised of Fetou Seidi Ghali and Alamnou Akron, are the apotheosis of a lilting, calming breeze. Intermingling fluttering guitarwork and expressive lyricism, the two-piece come together as the horizon between ground and sky. TispurTispur (fka Tisper) makes a sophomore appearance at Sled Island with a new, debut album and new moniker in tow. Some things haven’t changed, though. The vocals are still an angelically breathy falsetto, the guitar still meticulously strummed, and the accompaniment still a whimsical teleportation to an idyllic grove.HymnHYMN were founded in 2015 with a “goal to bring to mind the fraternity of melodies all over the word.” It’s a warm-hearted turn of phrase, and one they follow through with—HYMN play different forms of folk and traditional music, using mostly acoustic string instruments and percussion from different Eastern regions.HermitessJennifer Crighton, aka the Hermitess, is well-versed in exceeding the reaches of conventional folk to make it something extraordinary.
