Italian opera still arouses uncommon awe and passion, just as it did in Vivaldi's Venice and Handel's London. These two composers produced vocal thrills in an age when opera stars were like today's rock gods. At this Signature series concert, from the pen of George Frideric Handel you'll hear Overture to "Agrippina", selected arias and duets, and his Concerto grosso in F major. Not to be outdone, Antonio Lucio Vivaldi also produced some memorable arias and duets, as well as his Violin Concerto in D major, "II grosso mogul." Russian violinist and countertenor Dmitry Sinkovsky guest conducts, and young Russian soprano Julia Lezhneva, who "The New York Times" described as possessing an "angelic voice," also joins the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall.
