In Reverie Biography
“We’re all victims and villains at one point or another,” Front man, Jairod Collins says. “But at least we don’t have to be lonely. Music is the ultimate bridge. We started this thing to share and connect with other human beings.”
After over a decade of experience singing and writing in various musical projects, Collins set out for Portland from his hometown of Pendleton, OR to team up with long-time friend and seasoned bass player Jason McGhee.
“We have a shared vision,” says McGhee. “We recognize that where people come together for music, there is powerful energy.”
The duo quickly recruited Vermont native and ever-energetic hype guy Ben Capogrossi on drums, followed by established Portland musicians Eugene Nelson and Beniah Strobel on guitars and IN REVERIE was formed.
Having a sense of urgency and a knack for pop sensibility, the group wasted no time entering the studio and completed a 3-song EP, “Demonstration”, with L.A. based producer Rian Lewis in early 2016. Following the release of their first two singles, “Visitors” and “The Price We Pay”, the band is already drawing comparisons to artists like Jimmy Eat World, Fall Out Boy, and Taking Back Sunday for their ability to blend elements of pop punk, grunge, and classic rock ‘n roll while still maintaining a fresh, modern sound that would be perfectly at home in rotation on today’s pop radio. The lyrics on the EP are profound and poetic, discovering questions of morality and self-awareness. Collins, who consciously avoids more common subject matter in his songwriting, pushed himself into exploring lyrical content that strays outside the typical box of heartbreak and love lost. “We want this to mean more,” he says. “There’s something very compelling about music that makes you think.”
With immediate plans for several local shows in the Pacific Northwest in support of “Demonstration”, another EP in the works, and future plans for multiple tours spanning the West coast and beyond, IN REVERIE has arrived with focus and intention. Don’t miss out.
