Expression Direkt Biography

Expression Direkt is a French rap group. The group cultivated a style influenced by the social origins of each of its members in areas of Val Fourré à Mantes-la-Jolie where they are from.

In 1994, they made their first appearance on the compilation discs Ghetto Youth Progresss. Known for their sincerity and radicalism they earned a reputation as racailles (suburban youth). Express D stood out as a group with their first single, Mon Esprit Part En Couilles, the first truly racailleux piece of the history of french rap. This caught the attention of director Mathieu Kassovitz who used the song in his film La Haine. For the compilation inspired by the film they contributed Dealer Pour Survivre, another classic. They accompanied the director's tour in promotion of the film at the Cannes Film Festival and on television.

In 1998, their first album, Le Bout du Monde, produced by Rudlion, allowed them to place their department on the map of Hip-Hop. Signed with Island Records, they benefited from significant media exposure and created rivalries within the rap scene. Rumors eventually lead radios to stop playing them.

Express D has influenced many artists, and is now an emblematic figure for both the underground and for the Show-Business. Controversy, their sense of humor, their social commitment, their loyalty to the principles of Hip Hop and their musical influences are a special group, having managed to keep intact its early ideals.

Following the riots of November 2005, 153 deputies and 49 senators demanded the Ministry of Justice to consider the prosecution of several rap groups, one of which being Expression Direkt, for inciting anti-white racism and hatred of France.
