Marytree Biography
Marytree is a grungemetal three-piece from Charleston, SC, comprised of James George on guitar/vocals, Brandon Hicks on bass/vocals and David Dietze on drums.
James has a love of all things Pacific Northwestern, including Nirvana, the Melvins, Alice in Chains, Jimi Hendrix, and from elsewhere, Black Sabbath, Suicidal Tendencies and of course, the mighty Foo Fighters.
Brandon's roots are more in the realms of punk rock, consequently adding an interesting twist on Marytree's music and on stage, one with LOTS of energy! His influences include Type O Negative, Life of Agony, Rancid, NoFX, Stance Punks, Blitzkid, Big Reel Fish, etc.
Dietze brings a heavier, more metal element to the band. His influences include Metallica, Faith No More, Slayer, Testament, Anthrax, etc., but his drum style is definitely influenced by Dave Grohl. Dietze likes his tunage extra crunchy!
Three different sets of influences that overlap and compliment each other to bring about a balance between 'power and pretty', at least that's the intent.
