About this concert
Trio Eclectic will be performing music from their current CD, as well as some new material. While rooted in jazz, Trio Eclectic is augmented by loops and effects and takes the listener on a sonic journey that fuses many different genres of music. In a recent review, Jazz writer Scott Yanow had this to say "Trio Eclectic provides a consistently intriguing, diverse and colorful yet surprisingly accessible set of inventive jazz."We're excited to be returning to Alvas Showroom in San Pedro. It's a very cool and intimate performance space. We'll have some tasty treats on hand, but feel free to bring food and beverages if you wish. (The venue requests Non acholoic only please)$20 cover includes a free copy of the Trio Eclectic CD. There will also be other Dave Goldberg/ Duane Allen CDs to choose from so couples don't get multiple copies of the same disc, or perhaps you already own the current Trio Eclectic CD.Also joining us for this event will be projectionist Bill Almas, whose visuals always help create a cool vibe that goes well with the music.Trio EclecticDave Goldberg - saxophone, loops, and effectsDuane Allen - guitar, loops, and effectsChris Wabich - drums, drums, and drums.

Trio Eclectic Biography

This Trio Eclectic project has been a long time coming. For the last 15 years, guitarist Duane Allen and myself have been doing 100% improvised performances. Each "tune" representing different styles or moods to contrast the one before. Loops and effects have always been a part of this concept to add to the overall texture as needed. While we enjoy playing as a duo, it's been a lot of fun to add different drummers over the years to round out the group. For this recording we are happy to have drummer Jason Harnell. His use of space and the choices he makes, pair perfectly with our concept.

As for the music, we decided for a recorded project that will have repeated listenings (hopefully), we needed brief sketches to use as vehicles to explore. Now we have 98% improvised music, but that 2% of structure (if you can call it that) gives a foundation for the listener. The spontaneity is still present, as these tunes weren't talked about or rehearsed prior to recording them. What you have here are 3 musicians negotiating each situation as it occurs. Sometimes the choice is to completely play separately from each other and think of the structure and time as flexible. Out of this "chaos" comes order, where if you step back and look at the final canvas, you have an aural representation of a Jackson Pollock like concept. It was a lot of fun to record, and we hope you enjoy the journey it takes you on.
