Walt Disney Concert Hall
111 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012, Los Angeles, CA 90012
When the great conductor Leopold Stokowski says a piece of music "will take its place with the greatest creations of the masters," it means something (and not just because he was the famous silhouetted maestro in Disney's "Fantasia"). The piece he was talking about was Vaughan Williams' Sixth Symphony, an explosively dramatic work that many see as a reaction to WWII and the atomic bomb. It's sure to be a fitting climax to this LA Phil concert conducted by Andrew Manze at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Also on the program, soloist and Mozart specialist Richard Goode will perform the composer's joyous Piano Concerto No. 18, a perfect, frolicking piece to welcome spring.
