That iconic (or should we say "eye"-conic?) shot of a space capsule hitting the Man in the Moon in the eye? It's from Georges Méliès' 1902 surrealist classic "A Trip to the Moon", a landmark silent film inspired by the interstellar books of Jules Verne. Now Méliès' film has inspired an artwork of its own: a brand-new orchestral piece by prize-winning composer Andrew Norman. And where better to experience the U.S. premiere of this fresh new work than L.A.'s gorgeously futuristic Walt Disney Concert Hall. Teddy Abrams conducts the LA Phil along with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Los Angeles Children's Chorus in this sure-to-be-dazzling performance directed by 2017 MacArthur "Genius" Grant recipient Yuval Sharon. Billed as "an opera for the whole family," the premiere of "A Trip to the Moon" will be followed by another out-of-this-world work: Holst's "The Planets".
