KitchyRetro - Americana Duo Biography
Fun, Quirky & Entertaining describe Kitchy Retro perfectly, their unique upbeat and contemporary performance cant help but bring a smile to your face and have your feet tapping in no time at all. The friendly banter, audience participation and personal stories means this fantastic duo get often get referred to as a modern day Johnny and June (Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash) and are well suited for any stage, festivals & theaters alike.
“Kitchy Retro were great and really set the mood for the afternoon's Music In The Gardens event. The crowd loved them.” Durham Walled Gardens
2017 started brilliantly for the Americana Duo Kitchy Retro, with several sold out nights already, the White Rooms Gallery in Stanley, The Surf Café Tynemouth and the prestigious Prohibition Bar Newcastle. With dates at Redhouse Newcastle for their pre EP launch and at the Cluny Newcastle for their Album Launch in August, Durham Walled Garden Festival August, Staindrop Beer Festival September the Barney Festival in October its shaping up to be a specular year for the dynamic duo Kitchy Retro
“We love Kitchy Retro - Very Johnny and June” Americana Guisbrough
Kitchy Retros modern take on the Americana music scene means their music is Vibrant, Funky and tells a story from American Roots to New Orleans jazz clubs. From the New York speakeasies to Louisiana cotton fields and the bluegrass sound of the Appalachian Mountains.
It’s obvious to see where they get their inspiration for their own songs like ‘Daisy’,’ Mr 78 Man’, ‘Onslow Street’ and their first single ‘The Banker’.
Their show combines Marks warm melt in your heart vocals and cool guitar riffs & Lucy’s big, modern & funky bass guitar style. Both styles are reminiscent of yesteryear yet modern and dynamic and well suited to the music they play. So its not surprising that Kitchy Retro are going from strength to strength and getting the following they do. There definitely ones to watch for the future.

Mark Scott & Lucy Dawlish
Affectionately known as the Kitchies
Lucy Dawlish (Little Miss Kitchy)
Lucy’s bass guitar playing is reminiscent of the Dixieland slap bass usually associated with the double bass.
Her style is Rhythmical Lively and underpins the fun and exciting songs she writes.
She is never one to hide in the background and she loves to play big walking bass lines, with her often take the lead and the melody lines in the band’s arrangements.
Lucy’s warm engaging personality shines through in both her bass lines and witty banter as she leads the audience through the performance and encouraging everyone to join in and have a great time.
Mark Scott (Mr Retro)
Mark’s songwriting, while dealing with contemporary British subjects, draws heavily from his love of old time string bands and New Orleans Jazz allowing it to sit perfectly alongside the band’s contemporary arrangements of old time American classics.
His warm sincere and animated vocals bring a life and energy to the performance while his guitar style delivers a powerful, rhythmical beat punctuated with complex finger style melodies.
