The Royal Panics Biography
The Royal Panics mix the high-octane intensity of old school garage and punk with the catchy, hook-laden riffs of classic 70's 'the' bands like The Clash, The Knack, The Kinks, The Jam, and more... Over the past 3 years, the trio has grown a steady following in the SF indie rock scene bringing their special brew of power pop to clubs throughout the Bay Area. Singer/guitarist Greg Hoy slugged away in New York City rock bars for 10 years before migrating to San Francisco. Six months of false starts, drunken auditions, and missed connections led to bassist Mark Nichoson and drummer Dennis Galway. The first jam was a love fest of a rare and special sort. Hoy's songwriting fuels the Royal Panics and the prolific songsmith has released over 30 albums, recording with industry legends like Steve Albini, J Robbins, and John Vanderslice. Some of Hoy's songs have been used on MTV's 'Made' and 'The Real World', the CW's 'One Tree Hill', and documentary films seen on HBO. The Royal Panics will be on tour this spring to promote the upcoming release of their debut album, delivering on the promise of their incendiary live shows with an 11-song journey that is often funny, sometimes bittersweet, but always one hell of a ride. From the opening stomp of the pop single "Parker Posey" to the hard-rocking swagger of "Special Party," The Royal Panics spin out the big hooks with tales of life's great joys and discontents. Hooks that just won't let go...
