The indomitable Lilia Skala comes to life in her granddaughter’s deeply personal one woman show, which the New York Times calls “marvelous,” the Scotsman calls “spellbinding,” and the New York Blade calls “irresistible” and “a blend of transformative force and ravishing charm.”

Lilia Skala was already an established actress and architect when she escaped Austria and immigrated to America in 1939. She worked in a New York zipper factory, learned English, and began acting again, eventually earning an Oscar nomination for Lilies of the Field and an Emmy nomination for Eleanor and Franklin. She appeared in such Broadway productions as Three Penny Opera and Diary of Anne Frank, and in such movies as Ship of Fools, Charly, and Flashdance.

Her granddaughter Libby Skala is a playwright and actor who has won the Best Solo Performer Award at The London Fringe Theatre Festival. The New York Times praised her performance in Lilia! as “magnetic,” “cloaked in magic,” and “deliciously poignant.” Libby’s tender celebration of her grandmother’s extraordinary life promises to be an evening of exquisite theater.
