Iyez sounds like a creature that has emerged fully formed from the depths. There’s a clarity in the chaos that really makes you wonder where the fuck these songs came from. Sliding from drugged dream states into blaring euphoria, Psychic Jungle is both worldly and ephemeral. This is a dystopian world, haunted by decay. But even though darkness lives here year-round, so do life and blinding color. Natural vocal melodies sung by the two singers are issued in a single voice. A relentless rhythm section keep it all moving forward beneath a squall of lead guitar. The songs are full of inexhaustible life, fucking and thrashing all over everything sad and drab. Even when the ecstasy reaches full boil, though, it is always administered with a steady hand and a fearless power that seems to feed directly from the source. At those moments, the joy is infectious to the point of intoxication. But the sensation of flying passes and it is the real, the love and compassion and the honesty that make it clear that life trumps death.
