Southern Sky -Toronto Biography

Toronto based southern rock and blues tribute SOUTHERN SKY were co-founded by Paul Morgan Husiak and Marcus Bucci and have been together since early 2011. They have played numerous shows in the Toronto and surrounding area to adoring southern rock and blues audiences.

After Marcus' nine month stand with Texas based The Statesboro Revu ended in late 2010, and with a freshly whetted appetite for Southern Rock and Blues the two guitar slingers Paul and Marcus decided to form the band Southern Sky out of their common affection of the southern rock and blues genres. They quickly went on the hunt for other band members with similar interests. They then then added former Blue Rodeo keyboardist the late James Gray, The Jitters bass player Matt Greenberg and drummer Ed Troscianczuk to the lineup. After rehearsing a hand picked list of the best of the best southern rock and blues cover tunes and album tracks into a tight show the band immediately began to play to adoring audiences in and around the greater Toronto Area.

Marcus decided to leave the band to pursue other interests in 2012 and was replaced by guitarist Sam Boutzouvis.

With the passing of original keyboard player James Gray in 2013, separate organ player Phil Manning and piano player Lawrie Ingles were brought in to fill the void left behind by James. At the same time bass duties were taken on by bassist Howard Rabkin.

Shortly after their formation in 2011 drummer Mark Ansara joined the band. He remained Southern Sky's drummer until he headed out to sea to play the cruise ship circuit. The drumming duties were passed on to currnent drummer Phil Michael, formerly of Gowan.

The current Southern Sky lineup is a strong 6-piece unit with a sound strikingly similar to the bands they cover: The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Band, Marshall Tucker Band, Little Feat, CCR, The Eagles, ZZ Top
