Katie Grace Helow Biography

"You won't see Katie Grace Helow coming until her fearless love of music and ruthless dedication to her songs already have you by the throat. It might hurt but you'll know you're alive. She makes songs with the mud and sand and salt water of her Florida home. The people she knows and loves get mixed up there too. It's a place she'll never let you visit, but some nights you can peak through a keyhole or watch from the neighbor's bushes. It's a place where plants bend in the dark looking for some sunlight. Sometimes they find it. Don't listen to her records, and don't go see her shows, because you won't realize you're stung until it's too late. You'll be sunburned, dehydrated, and lost at sea." Katie Grace Helow is a singer, songwriter, and musician born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. Her latest album “Past Lives” is a folkrock-inspired collaboration with longtime friend Zach Lever, showcasing Helow’s dark, emotional songwriting and Lever’s driving electric guitar accompaniment. Released in November of 2015 as a double vinyl record, the two musicians tracked guitar, bass, drums, and vocals at Jacksonville’s own Chromatic Studios, and performed with a full band at the release party held in the historic Barnett Bank Building downtown. Katie Grace Helow has headlined many shows over the years as well as opened for notable acts such as Chris Isaak, Junip, and Loudon Wainwright III. She was recently the musical guest during a live broadcast of the beloved public radio show ‘Michael Feldman’s Whad’Ya Know?’ at the Florida Theatre, with Feldman stating that her voice was “…everything a voice should be. It’s sad, it’s beautiful, it makes ya think. I got goosebumps.” Helow has performed events such as Natural Life Music Festival and Jacksonville Porch Fest among many others, and her music has been featured in music blogs, publications, and radio both locally and nationally. ** the dark will enlighten you **
