Holding On To Nothing Biography

Holding On To Nothing started as five middle-aged guys from bands no one cares about coming together to form a new band that no one cares about. Kind of like Voltron, if no one liked Voltron. Their mission was to create music that reflected their position in the metal scene: tired, depressing, slow, out of touch. Success was had!

Singer Ugly Daughtry (formerly of CTHC band False Hope and a bunch of other projects you haven't heard of/don't care about) wrote and recorded the Demo '15 CD and recruited guitarist Bill Bates (ex-Crossthread), guitarist Worcester Pete Kozlowski (ex-Change Of System), bassist Marc McShane (ex-Tinstar Will/Godsburn) and drummer Chris Lefaiver (ex US Navy) to play live shows. In July of 2016, Pete was lost in a tragic motorcycle accident. After discussing whether to continue or not, it was decided Pete would say "Quit being little bitches." Onward march!

Multi-instrumentalist Rob Birkbeck (ex-Amido Black) stepped up and practice commenced. In July 2016, HOTN entered Studio Wormwood with producer Dave Kaminsky to record the song "Before His Time", a tribute to Pete. The video can be seen on youtube. In November 2016, Rob moved over to drums and Jake Perry (Train Of Thought, Gasoline Therapy) stepped in on guitar.

Holding On To Nothing are a breath of dry, dusty air in a metal scene moving too quickly for them to keep up with. While bands get flashier, more progressive, impressive, and djenty-technical, Holding On To Nothing stick to the old, tired, true power chord monotony of their vaguely remembered youth.

HOTN released a nine-song demo in 2015, and have been featured on the Blasphemour Records Summer Sampler in 2016. A seven inch was recorded in November 2016 and will be released in early 2017.
