JoOn SwitOn NeXtPeriment

The exceptional path of Joon Switon is undoubtedly its signature… As a child, Joon was a citizen of the world. It begins on the European roads in a van that his mother, deep into the hippy movement, drove with Africa as the final destination.The adventure purpose was clear, but once they arrived in Sudan, the van broke down. Settling down on it’s soil Joon would spend the first 10 years of his life there. Soaking in on a very strong musical culture, Joon discovers Bob Marley trough his mother who strongly influenced him into playing music. The day he hears Dire Straits and their Alchemy album in the summer of 1984 his vision is clear, he will be a musician. When he was 10 years old the Sudan war bursts. The family is immediately repatriated in France and settles down in the Parisian suburbs. At 15 years old, Joon’s mother offers him a present: a brand new blue Stratocaster. Learning about the rudiments of the blues he joined at the same time, the self-managed “LAP” highschool of Paris establishment which has the peculiarity to be managed by the very pupils … Joon created his first group there and played every weekend in clubs. The very young artist developed his taste for the stage, exploring the jazz fusion movement, inspired by Miles Davis. Steve Ray Vaughan made him discover Jimi Hendrix, another one of his reference artist. When rap music exploded, Joon listened on a loop artists such as Mc Solar, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots. He understood, one day, that the guitar could be modern while listening to Ronny Jordan. With ambition to make the guitar his business, his mother, before passing, gave him her blessing … He then immersed himself into his art … From then on, everything was linked. Jam sessions organizations in the CITHEA during one year and launch of the first concerts. Joon created his first group, RIMSHOT CREW, with whom he skimed the Parisian stages and played regularly during the famous "Sunday School". Meanwhile, The Roots launched a casting to develop "BlackLily" in Europe. Hundreds of European groups dreamed to win this grail. After listening to the models ,it was Joon was selected. He would play with Les Nubians and Zap Mama as well as The Roots and rapper Common who saw in him a talented and determined artist. Touring with Les Nubians on their U.S tour, a musical collaboration which was going to last 4 years. In 2006, he was chosen by Corneille as music director to play with Gage in his tour. Faf La Rage, Ayo and La Fouine will also call for his services Joon Switon collaborated with a large number of artist on stage such as Les Nubians, Ayo, The Roots, Common, Blitz the ambassador, Glenn Lewis, Jazzyfatnastees, keziah Jones, Corneille, Gage, Camille Bazbaz, Faf Larage, La Fouine, OFX, Saian Supa Crew, Menelik, Moïz, Triptik, Amel Bent, China Moses, Gaby Diop ...In studio : Les Nubians, Eric Roberson, Blitz the ambassador, Sherifa Luna, OFX, Ayo, Stevy Mahy, Stefan Filey, V-ro, Triptik, Dobacaracol, Shaby, Tedjee, M.A.S.S, Zifou, Alexy Large, Rachel Claudio ... Forth of his story and his rich experiences, Joon is now recognized as a guitar virtuoso and a quality musical director by his peers. Now on a new mission to bring out his 1st solo project, due out on June 12th, 2015 "The Nextperiment Mixtape", will capture 5 Classics of Hip Hop revisited with a taste of Jazz. Recognized artists honor him on this project such as: Mattic (wax taylor), Sisi LaMoon (Secret RendezVous), Laetitia Dana, Jamarlh Crawford, Hyleen Gill, KingKrab, Elodie Ji and Sofy Afoy. This album is independent of his first project to be released in October 2015 with Uptone Record. A more personnal album of original compositions called "NewBorn" a blend of all the influences that have made Joon Switon an master at combining Jazz and Hiphop flavors. It will include Malika Tirolien, Guadeloupean singer, who became known alongside Snarky Puppy, Brooklyn uprising singer Melanie Charles. ,Also part of the project, Erykah Badu’s former musical director Geno Young and Jamarhl Crawford native Boston poet's deep voice and now political activist. This year of 2015 will be rich in musical diversity, no doubt that Joon Switon will contribute to it!. Le parcours en tout point hors norme de l’artiste JoOn SwitOn, c’est en quelque sorte sa signature … Enfant, JoOn est un vrai citoyen du monde. Cela commence par les routes d’Europe à bord d’un van, que conduit sa mère en pleine mouvance hippie pour arriver en Afrique. Le but de cette aventure est clair, faire le tour du continent! Mais une fois arrivé au Soudan, le van tombe en panne. L’engin ne quittera plus jamais l’Afrique La mère de JoOn s’installe là où le van l’a déposée .JoOn passera les premières années de sa vie dans ce pays. Baignant dans une culture musicale très forte, sa mère lui fait découvrir Bob Marley qu’elle écoute du matin au soir. A l’été de 1984 JoOn SwitOn fait sa véritable rencontre avec la musique! il entend Dire Straits et leur album Alchemy. Et, Lasse de l’entendre chanter les solos de Mark Knopfler sa mère lui dit un jour « Au lieu de les chanter, tu devrais les jouer!» C’est la révélation! Le jeune JoOn sera guitariste. Quand il a 10 ans la guerre du Soudan éclate. La famille est rapatriée d’urgence en France et s’installe en banlieue parisienne. A 15 ans, sa mère lui fait un véritable cadeau: une Stratocaster bleue flambant neuve. S’initiant aux rudiments du blues il intègre au même moment, le «LAP» lycée autogéré de Paris établissement qui a la particularité d’être géré par les élèves eux-mêmes… Il y créer son premier groupe et se produit tous les week end dans les bars. Le tout jeune artiste développe ainsi son goût pour la scène.en explorant le jazz fusion, inspiré qu’il est par Miles Davis. Steve Ray Vaughan lui fait découvrir indirectement Jimi Hendrix. Une autre de ses références. Puis le rap explose, JoOn écoute en boucle, Mc Solar, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest , The Roots. Il comprend un jour que la guitare peut être moderne en écoutant Ronny Jordan. Maintenant devenu guitariste il veut en faire son métier! Sa mère, avant de mourir, lui donne sa bénédiction… Il se lance alors corps et âme dans son art… Dès lors, tout s’enchaîne! Organisation des jam sessions au CITHEA pendant une année et lancement des premiers concerts. Joon crée son premier groupe, RIMSHOT CREW, avec lequel il écume les scènes parisiennes et joue régulièrement aux célèbres «Sunday School». A la même époque, The Roots lance un "casting" pour développer les "BlackLily " en Europe. Des centaines de groupes européens rêvent de remporter le graal, à l’écoute des maquettes c’est bel et bien Joon Switon qui est sélectionné. Il jouera avec les Nubians et Zap Mama ainsi qu’avec les Roots et le rappeur Common qui reconnaissent en lui un artiste de talent. En 2006, il est choisi par Corneille comme directeur musical pour accompagner GAGE dans sa tournée. Faf la rage, Ayo et la Fouine le feront également par la suite. Les Nubians l’emmène jouer en tournée aux USA, une collaboration musicale qui va durer 4 ans. JoOn SwitOn a collaboré avec un grand nombre d'artistes sur scene : Les Nubians, Ayo, The Roots, Common, Blitz the ambassador, Glenn Lewis, Jazzyfatnastees, keziah Jones, Corneille, Gage, Camille Bazbaz, Faf Larage, La Fouine, OFX, Saian Supa Crew, Menelik, Moïz, Triptik, Amel Bent, China Moses, Gaby Diop ... Le 12 Juin 2015 sortira son 1er projet, une Mixtape, de 5 reprises de classique du HipHop avec une bonne dose de Jazz. Des artistes reconnus lui font l’honneur de paraitre sur son projet tel que : Mattic (wax taylor), Sietske Morsh (Secret RendezVous), Laetitia Dana, Jamarlh Crawford, Hyleen Gill, KingKrab, Sofy Afoy, Un album de composition, indépendant de son premier projet sortira à la rentrée 2015 chez Uptone Record Cet autre projet qui porte le nom de "NewBorn" est un mélange de toutes les influences qui ont fait JoOn SwitOn, en mêlant Jazz et Hiphop. On y retrouvera Malika Tirolien, chanteuse guadeloupéenne, qui s'est fait connaitre au côté de Snarky Puppy , ainsi que Melanie Charles jeune chanteuse New Yorkaise . Geno Young ancien directeur musical d'Erykah Badu qui vient de Dallas ainsi que Jamarhl Crawford natif de Boston, poète à la voix profonde et désormais activiste politique, font aussi parti du projet.
