SABENITA is a powerful and soulful Montreal-born singer/songwriter and entertainer with a captivating talent. From Caribbean descent, Sabenita delivers R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop, Pop Music and Urban Jazz, Blues with a high-spirited potential, a passionate voice that always has something hot and new to reveal. Add a touch of European classical to Latin and Caribbean-rooted sounds and you have that captivating sound. The Sabenita sound! As Corinne Laberge from Cités Nouvelles puts it, Sabenita brings forth “her intense voice, her contagious energy and her warm rhythms that get you dancing”.
Leading with the all-original-material promotional CD that she issued in 2011, Sabenita now has a permanent one in the works. A tour, festivals and continued representations at clubs and special events are on the agenda to move this experienced and well-rounded artist to the national limelight. A hot, intense and busy year ahead! SABENITA, the passionate and multifaceted songstress, has been lighting up the musical scene from her earliest childhood years. Her artistic family’s genes and presence started her off; from a grandfather that was a theatre director to a mother who sings, acts, choreographs and is a storyteller, Sabenita bloomed naturally and easily started taking on the challenges that come when aiming for an international career. Though her mother was a strong influence, Sabenita also admires and has been influenced by some of the greatest entertainers, hailing from a very broad spectrum: from the earlier works of Fred Astaire, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, from the finest of Broadway Singers and actors to classics like Pavarotti, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Sade, Usher, AAliyah, and then some.
Up till this day, she believes that ‘‘artists should always follow their deepest dreams and inspiration, no matter what it is they do. They should spend time in creating what they feel is good and right for themselves’’.
SABENITA shored up her natural abilities by gaining a College degree in Creative Arts and a Bachelor in English Literature and Musical studies, by attending many private schools and by taking courses as a jazz vocalist. All through her studies, she was praised by fans, teachers, coordinators and event managers for being intense and participative. She also demonstrated her need to share by giving voice lessons and leading several dance troops. Her involvement within the social community and with women’s rights also contributed to her life studies.
From the earliest days during high school, Sabenita was a featured singer, an actor, a dance choreographer and an all around high-energy performer that was nicknamed “Miss Tabasco” by her fellow students. She has been performing professionally for many years now, singing/dancing in music festivals, sporting events, clubs, songwriters’ and composers’ events, special cultural shows, Gala Award events and such. Most notably, Sabenita performed at The Double Tree by Hilton in Los Angeles, CA, at the Club Balattou, the Meritas Gala at the Hotel Maritime Plaza, the Cabaret Juste Pour Rire, the Place Des Arts, the Airport Hilton and at Café-Campus, all in Montreal, QC.
Sabenita has also acted in movies, modeled, sung in fashion shows and hosted different Urban Hip-Hop shows. In addition, she has given of herself and her time to show her support for a variety of humanitarian causes.
SABENITA is full of surprises! On attending her performances, people really get the feeling that music makes everything possible and that it is what connects humans together. Sabenita’s vast musical knowledge gives the audience a powerful breath of satisfaction. She aims to extend that in the year ahead with higher-profile performances and her upcoming CD release.
