Niclas Campagnol

Pierre Niclas Francesco Campagnol was born August 15th, 1973 in Vaxjo, Sweden. He started playing at the age of 3 on his fathers Ludwig drums and at the age of 5 he was applied his first private drum teacher. Niclas wished to be a classical percussionist and got himself a marimba and played in ensembles, chamber and symphonic orchestras, as well as marching bands, big bands and other groups. Being the youngest in several bands, he got his first payed job at the age of 12. He attended music classes at the high school in Vaxjo for 2 years. At the age of 16 he moved to Svalov to be accepted at Fridhems Collage, one of the best known and most sought after music collages in Sweden. After only a year, he decided to move to Copenhagen, Denmark for more challenges. Niclas passed the entrance examination at the Danish Conservatory for rhythmical improvised music and he studied there for 4 years, graduating early summer of 1996. During his studies Niclas toured around Sweden and Denmark becoming familiar to the music scenes around. In March 1997 he joined the band Ensemble New, a rhythmical ensemble contained of 6 elite musicians handpicked and supported by the Danish government. They played and toured with the great drum legend Bill Cobham, and made a studio recording w.Bill (album, Hope Street) One of the main musicians who introduced him to the Cph music scene was the great bass player Niels "Guffi" Pallesen.
