Side Saddle Biography
Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and band leader Ian McGuinness is known for his infectious indie-folk melodies and introspective, ‘bare it all’ story telling. Now based in North Texas, Side Saddle will soon be releasing songs from the upcoming EP “Forever & A Little While”, produced and mixed by Peter Katis (The National, Hozier, Kurt Vile).
Side Saddle started as a solo project by singer-songwriter Ian McGuinness in 2013 in Astoria, NY. McGuinness released "The Postcard - EP" engineered and produced by longtime friend TJ Dumser, which received accolades from the likes of Baeble, American Songwriter and The Wild Honey Pie. Later that year Side Saddle released their debut LP, "The Astorian."
The follow up, Young Professional - EP, landed the band a spot on Absolute Punk's "Best of Bandcamp" series.
The band released their 2nd full length "Stunner" in October '16 and it marked another turning point as the band's sound grew a bit heavier/darker, with McGuinness citing The War on Drugs as an influence.
The most recent release "Waltermelon - EP", named after the beloved dog shared by McGuinness and his wife, was dubbed “A rejuvenating indie-pop jewel reminiscent of Nada Surf and Death Cab for Cutie” - Glide Magazine.
