Brett Taylor Biography
With sunflower seeds, baseball cards and James Taylor albums, Brett grew up writing poems on yellow post-it notes and later, beating up a red Gibson Hummingbird in dancehalls in Texas. A university job at Vanderbilt brought him to Nashville, and he was introduced to the blue-collar craft of songwriting. Mentored and apprenticed by Nashville Songwriting Hall of Fame inducted and Grammy/Oscar nominated songwriter Tom Douglas (The House That Built Me, Raise ‘Em Up, I Run To You), Brett discovered early that the song was his only way to tell the human story he longed to. Songs were the fruits and vegetables, longing and brokenness were the garden, and redemption and hope were sun and water. After 5 years, 400 shows and Billboard Magazine and CMT success with his band Mockingbird Sun, he has re-tuned his guitar and cause for a storytelling pilgrimage into America.
