Contemporary folk indie band Hadrian's Union are back with a brand new five piece line-up, sound and material.
Initially starting life as a duo, Hadrian's Union formed in 2010 and were signed to independent label Fellside Records in 2013, which spawned the seeds of such bands as Bellowhead and recent Folk Award winners Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar.
Sadly, the band disbanded later that year and lead singer and songwriter Stew Simpson took a year out to write a new album.
Stew said: After the initial Hadrian's Union broke up I decided to take a year out. During that year I took on one gig to test out some material, and at that gig I met Robin Jowett and Brian Bell who were playing a gig. I instantly saw their talent and went out of my way to talk to them to see if they would like to play on my next record. They asked me what I wanted, I said I really want drums and I miss the fiddle sound. They put out an advert and the first two guys they auditioned on the same day just fit like a glove. Within ten seconds I was like, this is it. This is the sound I've been looking for all my life.
Completing the line-up with Stew (vocals and guitar), Robin (melodeon and keys) and Brian (bass) are drummer Dave Pratt and violinist Malcolm Bushby. Since coming together, the band have worked hard to develop a new sound which incorporates all of their musical influences including Lindisfarne, Home Service, Stackridge, Bonzo Dog Dooh Dah Band, Morris On and Fairport Convention.
