La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts
14900 La Mirada Boulevard, La Mirada, CA 90638
See stars of Broadway's "Jersey Boys" and "Motown: The Musical" at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts with this special concert celebrating the genre that made those shows possible. "The Doo Wop Project" begins where doo-wop had its origins -- on the street corners of American cities just after World War II. Young men gathered to sing a cappella, mimicking the sounds of instruments with nonsense words: the bass was bom-bom-bom, the guitar was shang-a-lang and the brass riffs were doooo-wop-wop. These impromptu concerts gave rise to groups like the Crests, Belmonts and Flamingos. Later, doo-wop would influence everything and everyone from the Motown sound to Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse. Now experience the entire so-crazy-it-has-to-be-true story via song.
