Juice Box is a San Diego based project fronted by drummer/composer Matthew Smith. Smith had this to say about the group, "I bought a suitcase Rhodes from craigslist and took one whole month and wrote one song per day, amassing about 21 songs. With no real project in mind I took what songs I felt had the most impact and formed the group. "At it's core Juice Box is an instrumental group, yet the B side of their self titled 10’’ vinyl release “Vol. 1,” features a San Francisco based vocalist "Lewis Gallardo" singing his song, Heartbreak Reprise.

Their 2016 release of “Juice Box VOL. 2” has been a more sophisticated statement while maintaining heavy groove. This release has lent itself to the addition of Two Time GRAMMY Award Winning Adrián Terrazas-González (The Mars Volta, T.R.A.M., TRANSIENT), Terrazas-González joined The Mars Volta recording the studio album, “Frances the Mute”, and continues to work with the band (as a full-fledged member) on subsequent albums and all of The Mars Volta side projects. Through his work with the band went on to earn his first GRAMMY Award in 2008.
Terrazas-González’s professional involvement with the music industry has continued to develop leading T.R.A.M. and as a led member of one of the strongest lineups in improvisational music TRANSIENT. This addition has broadened the sonic spectrum with multiple woodwinds including flutes and saxophones, mixed with electronics. With a wide variety of influences that span from Hendrix to Hancock this group is truly one that is pushing the funk, soul and jazz boundaries. Live shows highlight a steady pocket while exploring the depths of the group's collective improvisation.
