The EXPANDED 2017 Palm Springs Ukulele Festival will have our greatest concentration of talent yet! We will begin early Thursday afternoon, February 23, with very unique workshops that you won’t find anywhere else, followed by a poolside kickoff party (weather permitting) with jams and wild performances at the bar & grill that will have you grabbing your plastic ukes and jumping into the pool to party along! We’re also adding a concert Friday night as well as our annual Saturday night finalé!
PERFORMING and/or TEACHING:James Hill & Anne JanelleJack & the VoxStuart FuchsMichael PowersAbe Lagrimas, Jr.Jim D'VilleDani JoyPeter Luongo and the Luongo Ukulele Experience Ensemble!
Play Uke's Third Annual Palm Strings Ukulele Festival will be larger and longer! The event will run from mid-day Thursday through our grand finalé concert Saturday night. The Hilton is just a short stroll from the heart of the boutique district of Palm Springs, on Tahquitz Canyon Way.
The festival will begin with Thursday afternoon workshops, followed by a poolside meet-n-greet reception/jam/concert. Food & Drink will be available for purchase from the Hilton. This get together is a special evening for all 2 and 3 day passholders and their guests.
On Friday and Saturday we will offer full days of workshops for players of all levels and abilities, a day stage with a mix of free entertainment and open-mic for those of you who want to perform, and a vendor marketplace for those of you who like to shop. Friday night will feature Jack & the Vox in concert with special guests Abe Lagrimas, Jr. and Michael Powers. Saturday night we will showcase James Hill & Anne Janelle with Stuart Fuchs.
New to the ukulele world is Peter Luongo's Luongo Ukulele Experience, an inspirational, high-energy, two-day program for adults that extracts musical skills and achievement beyond what the participants ever thought they could accomplish. The LUE will be coming to the area in the weeks after the festival and passholders will be able to take a test-drive workshop, to get a feel of what it's like for participants. The pinnacle of the LUE is the optional opportunity to join a performing adult ukulele ensemble, patterned after Peter's highly acclaimed Langley Ukulele Ensemble for youths that he directed for over 30 years. The Nothern Ensemble will make an appearance at the festival to show you their progress a scant four months since meeting for the first time as a group of strangers with varying skill levels. We hope to build a Southern Ensemble in the area, not too long after the festival.
If you are new to the ukulele, this is a great opportunity to introduce, or re-introduce music into your life. The uke is the easiest stringed instrument to learn to play, but also has no limitations on the serious music side of things for those that want to challenge themselves. It is popular with players of all ages, from kids in the classroom to seniors in active clubs and communities. If you're looking to expand your social life, Palm Springs is centrally located among several large ukulele clubs who will certainly make their whereabouts known during the weekend.
The Palm Strings Ukulele Festival is an event for all ages and abilities. See the various Festival pass options for details.
