THE REVOLUTION is an emerging musical series that highlights artists and musicians that not only represent the core of independent pop culture in 2016 but who are standing in the breeding ground of an evolution within their genre.
As a part of VOL. 10, The Revolution will feature three incredible live performances from NYC based artists: Aviva Jaye, Jonathan Greenstein, & Tangina Stone
Aviva Jaye: Aviva Jaye loves connecting with people at the intersection of heart, brain & art. Dedicated to empathy and diversity through song, she wields voice, guitar, piano, ukulele & harp to share raw material with transparent themes. Fans of an artist who draws from the simplicity of folk, depth of soul and clarity of pop will be pleased.
Jonathan Greenstein: “Takes Jazz to today’s streets, charting a course for listeners of tomorrow” -The Midwest Record “Greenstein’s rambunctious group milks the material for all it’s worth” -New York Jazz Record “Real feeling of gravitas, beauty and depth… truly mesmerizing” -A Slice of Jazz “A great saxophonist… contemporary Jazz at it’s best” -Notes & Tones, Solar Radio
Jonathan Greenstein is a restless new talent with a jaw-dropping, high energy live show. Arriving at a distinctive sound that’s relevant to the wider music audience, Greenstein’s beat emphasizes song, lyricism and space. It is soulfully sophisticated with an anti-pop, punk attitude and inspiring songwriting. This is not your grandparents’ Jazz.
His new project goes back to Jazz’s spontaneous roots and challenges the traditional album structure by releasing several EP’s, all recorded live in the studio with no separation or headphones. These shorter records really showcase Jonathan’s songwriting and storytelling, and mix these songs with the type of Jazz that was the basis for Hip Hop and beatmaking. The first EP, Vol I, has already been receiving great reviews and turning heads to Greenstein’s style.
This is beautiful music, with movement, personality and many layers. A journey to have character through music, to create oneself and to accept who you are. It invites the audience to really listen, to move, to be together, to feel. His songs and moods offer another chapter in the life of Jazz, capturing the essence of this music and bringing it, in his own lush way, to our generation and our music. For Greenstein, it’s bigger than Jazz, and he’s on a mission to bring the people with him.
Tangina Stone: Following her 2014 debut, The Fall, soulful singer and songwriter Tangina Stone will release her anticipated debut full-length album, Elevate, this fall. Appropriately titled, the album showcases Stone’s growth personally and artistically across subjects ranging from tragedy and love to social crises. Most notably, Elevate combines Stone’s lyrical mastery with addictive combinations of R&B, pop, rock and soul into an eclectic fusion of musical artistry. Since the release of The Fall, the Canton, Ohio native was declared “new and next” by Essence Magazine, proclaimed one of the “Best Emerging Artists in 2015” by Deli Magazine and graced stages from her current base in Brooklyn to Los Angeles, further generating highly acclaimed performances and fortifying a strong following across the country.
Stone's latest single "Ride Off" featuring Crystal Caines is out now.
