The Second Church in Newton
60 Highland St, West Newton, MA 02465
Get caught up in "March Madness" of a different kind with a spirited program from period-instrument ensemble Grand Harmonie. Mozart kicks things off to a rollicking start with the pirate-themed Overture to "The Abduction from the Seraglio". On Carl Maria von Weber's notoriously difficult Concertino for Horn and Orchestra, Grand Harmonie co-founder Yoni Kahn will perform what amounts to a magic trick, producing two notes simultaneously, by humming while playing. Jacquelyn Stucker will bring down the house with a concert aria from Beethoven, whose Symphony No. 1 will close the program. Full of musical jokes and the experimentation that would mark his career, Beethoven's First Symphony is the perfect end to this concert at Second Church in Newton.
