A unique afternoon of music, song and poetry from Rochdale!
To celebrate 200 years since the birth of one of Rochdale’s most famous poets, you are warmly invited to this unique celebratory event. Edwin Waugh’s poetry and works spread throughout the UK and beyond in the 19th century, bringing him fans across the social spectrum, from Lancashire mill workers to the Prime Minister and even Charles Dickens! In this special concert, dialect poet Sid Calderbank and composer Jim Molyneux have created an afternoon of old works renewed and new works created in a special Arts Council England funded project in honour of Edwin Waugh. Expect choirs, brass groups, string quartets and poetry at this world premiere, shining a light on a key part of Rochdale’s rich cultural heritage.
Hosted by the Edwin Waugh Dialect Society. Funded by Arts Council England
