March’s program explores widely contrasting works for string orchestra. Brahms' sumptuous Liebeslieder Waltzes, originally for choir, come to life in this exquisite arrangement. Elgar’s early Serenade is a passionate and personal work of great lyricism. Brazilian Ney Rosauro’s concerto is sexy, dancelike, and lyrical. By turns virtuosic and sensual, this work is the most widely performed concerto for the marimba and one irresistible to both audiences and orchestras. Our soloist, Michelle Humphreys, is the newly appointed Professor of Percussion at Towson University, and the Timpanist and Principal Percussionist of Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra. An early music specialist, Michelle performs with The Folger Concert, Tempesta di Mare, Opera Lafayette, and many others.
