Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington
125 Montrose Rd., Rockville, MD 20852
Felix Mendelssohn, Ernest Bloch and Paul Schoenfield are the contrasting trio of Jewish musical greats chosen by the Chiarina Chamber Players as the focus of their latest concert at the Bender Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington in Rockville. Pianist Efi Hackmey and cellist Carrie Bean Stute, Chiarina's artistic directors, welcome violinist Alexandra Osborne of the National Symphony Orchestra for this performance of the jaunty jazz-influenced "Cafe Music" by Schoenfield. The contemporary composer is a Pulitzer Prize nominee for "Camp Songs", an exploration of life during the Holocaust. Also on the bill are "Three Nocturnes" by Ernest Bloch, who was famed for his biblically inspired "Jewish Cycle" of works, and Felix Mendelssohn's romantic Piano Trio No. 1.
