One of Beethoven’s first published works in 1795 was a set of piano trios, which established him as a bright and powerful voice in Vienna. The fiery Trio in C minor especially pushed the established sonata allegro form in revolutionary ways. 31 years later Mendelssohn, working within the same compositional frameworks, demonstrated a complete mastery of this form in his Trio in C minor. Both works will be performed, showcasing the masters at the beginning and end of their illustrious careers. Mozart’s sunny Trio in B-flat Major opens the program. A work that exemplifies perfection of the classical style!
