Descender Biography
The members of Brooklyn, NY's Descender grew up wearing out Dinosaur Jr cassettes, watching Pantera videos on Headbangers Ball and marveling over Sunny Day Real Estate on The John Stewart Show. Formed in 2008 by Eric Palmerlee (guitar), Angelo Pournaras (vocals/guitar), Jay Morris (bass/vocals) and George Manolis (drums), all four members of Descender are graphic designers and took their name from a typographic term. Their sound is often compared to mid-90's post-hardcore giants like Helmet, Snapcase and Quicksand. However, newer bands such as Mastodon, Pelican and Torche also get referenced quite often. This mix of old and new wasn't their intention but it's also not surprising considering the music they grew up listening to. The band has slowly been making a name for itself, playing tirelessly in New York City, touring as far as Chicago and Savannah, as well as sharing the stage with the likes of Russian Circles, Shai Hulud, Texas Is The Reason, Loma Prieta, Iron Age, ASG, Hawks & Doves, Pianos Become the Teeth, Gameface, On The Might of Princes, Premonitions of War, United Nations and Trophy Scars. They launched their own imprint, Aqualamb, to release their new EP "And So We Marched" in book format in 2012. Heavy music. Poor eyesight.
