Davies Symphony Hall
201 Van Ness Ave, San Francisco, CA 94102
With Italian conductor Roberto Abbado at the baton, German violinist Veronika Eberle as the soloist and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3, "Scottish," on the bill, the San Francisco Symphony is set to take you on a grand European adventure. The concert at Davies Hall kicks off with excerpts from Busoni's exotic "Turandot" Suite, which actually predates Puccini's version. Then Eberle, lauded by "The New York Times" for her "interpretive boldness," takes on Schumann's lovely Violin Concerto. The evening comes to a climax with Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony, a dramatic, evocative piece, so named for the composer's inspirational visit to that country in 1829, though he wouldn't premiere the piece until 1842.
