One of the most powerful and rhythmically vibrant works in all of music history, Beethoven's Seventh Symphony was greeted at its premiere with "applause that rose to the point of ecstasy." The music has been featured in numerous film scores, including the Academy Award-winning "The King's Speech", because of its stirring, inspirational melodies. In this concert at Davies Symphony Hall, the San Francisco Symphony and conductor Juraj Valcuha will show why Beethoven considered the Seventh one of his best works. Also on the program, violinist Gil Shaham will bring his "soulful eloquence and vigor" to Barber's masterpiece of American music, his Violin Concerto.
