Knifesex Biography

knifesex is an NYC-based female solo artist, producer, and DJ. Prior to launching her solo project, she served as a producer and lead vocalist for NYC band The Harrow, and as one half of the electronic duo Synesect. She has also performed as a live member of Public Memory and produced the track Cinder for the album What I Speak I Create by a place both wonderful and strange. She was the host of the dark electronic radio show TOTAL CONTROL on Brooklyn’s Newtown Radio for two years.

Musically, her work experimentally draws from elements of post-industrial, noise, and trip hop. Thematically her music is heavily influenced by feminism and spirituality, specifically witchcraft and the occult. Her work is primarily devotional and serves as both a form of ritual purification and a vehicle for ecstatic dance.

She released her first EP, Deipna, on the OWLs label in January of 2017 and will release her first full-length album, dedicated to the goddess Babalon, in Fall 2017 on 3t3rnal Records. Her track Sex & Death was released on Highbrow Lowlife as part of the COVEN compilation produced by Carl Abrahamsson and dedicated to the memory of Lady Jaye Breyer-P-Orridge.

“drones and beats and vocals from the misty depths of a metal forest.” - Warren Ellis, comic book writer, novelist, and screenwriter

“Sex & Death is a pagan lullaby for the 21st century” - Electronic North

“Alternately sinister and celestial, fusing noise, trip hop, and synthwave, knifesex’s first full-length release is a soundtrack for destroying the divide between sacred and profane, and blurring boundaries between worlds.” - Kristen Sollee, author of Witches, Sluts, Feminists
