Don Juan was one of literature's greatest cads -- the original "love 'em and leave 'em" kinda guy. But when the legendary seducer is given one last chance to repent of his philandering ways, he adds murder and blasphemy to his lengthy list of sins. The last straw having fallen, human and supernatural forces combine to enact a terrible punishment in Mozart's "Don Giovanni". Three charismatic singers, Simon Keenlyside, Ildar Abdrazakov, and Mariusz Kwiecien, share the role of the title hero, who goes to hell in a dazzling coup de théâtre. The ensemble of great Mozartean singers includes Isabel Leonard, Angela Meade, Matthew Polenzani, Marina Rebeka, Erwin Schrott, Ramón Vargas, and RolandoVillazón. Fabio Luisi and Plácido Domingo conduct this lighthearted, urbane and ironic opera at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, which you can enjoy with an included glass of sparkling wine.
