Akire Lotus

Akire Lotus (born Erika Denise Newton on May 14, 1974 in San Francisco, California) is a rap artist who has been ministering her music throughout the Bay Area since 2008. After a host of collaborations with other Bay Area artists she is quickly becoming known for her floetic and straight-to-the point style of music. The requests and anticipation for her album began to grow steadily over the last several years. Now, not only does she possess that album, but that album serves as her formal introduction to the world – and with it, she’s on a mission that lines up with her destiny. Akire has lived in the Bay Area her entire life, but the beginnings of her life started in the Fillmore District of San Francisco. It was at the tender age of 11 that she penned the lyrics of her first song, not knowing that years later writing music and rhyming would become her passion. Fast forward several years of Akire’s life, and you’ll find the backstory that includes teen pregnancy, divorce and several failed relationships. Overcoming all of this and more has shaped the tone of Akire’s music and her ministry as a whole. Her entire album is an audible essay of her ‘from broken to restored’ life and how her experiences can help others see the light of Christ. Her album, “Light in a Dark World” encompasses ALL that Akire is. In Matthew 5: 14-15, Jesus declares, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.” The stage has become her lampstand and so have the hearts of many throughout the Bay Area who have experienced her music. Akire has performed in numerous church and cultural events and recently completed the “I am Tour” which covered 12 Bay Area cities. She also shared the stage with over 30 gospel artists in Concord, CA at the Praise in the Park concert, which is one of the largest gospel events in Northern California. In addition, she has recently been added to the Joshua Fest 2015 (Sept 4-6, 2015) line up in Quincy, California. Joshua Fest has been at the forefront of Christian music since 2003 bringing together familiar artists along with new and budding artists. Akire has definitely fallen in love with the music and the unique development process the Lord has given her. “It fulfills me to actually hear the melodies God places in my heart being made manifest, because it brings my dreams from the unseen realm into the seen. I am so incredibly grateful to be able to grab the mic and live out my divine purpose flowing to His music.” Akire continues to allow the Lord to use her through music by being the voice of so many young women who often go through life silenced by adverse circumstances and situations.
