Winchester Treaty Biography

With the release of the Your Mother’s Chair EP, Winchester Treaty brings a new feel to a classic genre. Lush with addicting progressions, smooth guitar hooks, and a classic rock attitude, the record boasts the aesthetic of indie rock anthems. Though the songs are diverse from one another, there is a glue that holds it all together much like a concept album would. Most importantly, the record never loses sight of the emotional platform great songs are built from. The first single and title track, “Your Mother’s Chair”, is an instant folk classic. Complete with soulful vocals, and a southern swing, the track seems to build and breathe as it plays on. “The main theme of the song is how with strong feelings sometimes come strong hesitations. The single which compared to the other songs on the EP may have an overall different sound from other songs on the EP but we feel it stands as a mission statement for who we are as a band and the kind of high energy, heartfelt music we strive to make. The single also consist of catchy words and a strong up tempo feel, with an overall sing along, hand clapping, foot stomping feel to it,” explains songwriter Conor McGowan of the bands single. Although the single speaks volumes for the EP, to get a full understanding of where Winchester Treaty is coming from, it should be heard in its entirety. “We have come leaps and bounds from where we were at when we recorded our first EP. The band has evolved as a whole musically and so have the members. Sean McCann our lead guitarist/singer has also started writing and contributing songs,” says the band of their evolution in songwriting. Formed by Conor McGowan in 2010, Winchester Treaty started off with regular rehearsals in Medford NJ and shortly thereafter started performing in and around the Philadelphia area. The band, comprised of Mike Rehn on bass and Sean McCann on lead guitar, in their earliest days they wrote and performed more stripped down traditional folk music. As the two went on to write more songs, the sound gradually evolved into the more indie folk rock sound they are today. Rounded out with live drums and organs on several tracks, the band has its sound more honed in now than ever before. This is of course the sound of the Your Mother’s Chair EP. The band has already been featured on radio stations like Philadelphia’s 93.3 WMMR and Wilmington's 93.7WSTW, as well as being sub finalists in the World Cafe Lives Philly Rising Contest, and are already writing new material for the next release. Your Mothers Chair is available for streaming and download on most digital outlets and the band is planning a small tour and series of performances in support of their release.
