Get out of the winter doldrums with an uplifting, sunny concert with the Metro Chamber Orchestra as we continue our 14th season !
Claude Debussy's Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune, one to the staples of the orchestral repertoire since its composition, opens the program in a reorchestration by composer/ arranger Yoon Jae Lee.
Contemporary, award-winning composer David Chesky's Arbeit Macht Frei for solo cello and orchestra is a longing largo punctuated with colorful statements by solo winds and percussion. This haunting and beautiful work will be performed by Metro Chamber Orchestra regular, Melody Giron. Ms Giron, a graduate of the New England Conservatory '11 and Peabody Conservatory '14, has recently starred as "The Musician" in the Off-Broadway production of The Sandbox, by Edward Albee at Signature Theatre. She has concertized in China, Europe, North and South America, in orchestras, chamber groups and as a soloist.
The program concludes with Gustav Mahler's glowing Symphony #4 in G Major, also arranged by Yoon Jae Lee. This symphony is one of Maestro Nuzzo's signature pieces. He has performed it in Vienna, Austria and in Avelino, Italy. From the opening sleigh bells to the last ever faint pizzicati this work runs the emotional gamut from youthful joy to the deep questioning if the meaning of life. Full of playful and passionate melodies this is an orchestral tour de force ! Soprano soloist to be announced.
