How often does a harp appear at a Greys gig? It'll be third time along for Rachel Newton, that much is certain. From Scotland, Rachel and her essential harp, lightly wafting, deeply, darkly brooding, have performed here as part of Emily Portman Trio and The Furrow Collective (really sorry we had to shelve a Rachel Newton Trio date in april). Rachel is also a founding member of The Shee and supergroup Elizabethan Method project a well as playing with Boreas.

Her own repertoire has also brought her considerable accolades and raised Rachel beyond a most sought after session player and band member.
Rachel's second solo album, 2014's 'Changeling', a (gulp) concept album, explored faerie tales in Gaelic and English ballads. Her new album 'Here's My Heart Come Take It', ventures beyond our shores to include songs that emerged from the Ozark Mountains. Her own songs sit beautifully amongst the traditional repertoire that she reweaves in her unique own fashion. Rachel is a mesmerising solo performer - now she gets the chance to fill the stage and this teensie venue with her own magical singing and playing.

'Newton delivers a thing of great beauty' ***** fROOTS Magazine
'Brings traditional songs freshly to life without losing their essential strangeness' **** Financial Times
'boundless energy... matched only by an equally inexhaustible creativity' Neil McFayden (
'an increasingly compelling solo performer...**** ' Robin Denselow (Guardian)
