War Memorial Opera House
455 Franklin St., San Francisco, CA 94102
Under the stellar guidance of Helgi Tomasson, its artistic director and principal choreographer, the San Francisco Ballet has come to define the best in 21st-century dance with its combination of cutting-edge works and classical favorites. And now, after a sold-out run in 2016, Tomasson's acclaimed modern take on "Swan Lake" returns to the stunning War Memorial Opera House in a production described as "sublime" ("The Mercury News") and "beautifully lyrical" ("The New York Times"). The legendary Russian ballet tells the haunting story of young lovers Siegfried and Odette, who's been captured by an evil sorcerer and transformed into a swan. Siegfred only has a short time to save his beloved, but standing in his way is the sorcerer's daughter, the beguiling black swan Odile, who comes to tempt and distract him from his quest. Principal dancer Yuan Yuan Tan is set to appear as Odette/Odile, as are several of the company's other talented ballerinas.
