Schermerhorn Symphony Center
1 Symphony Pl, Nashville, TN 37201-2031
Frustrated with being pigeonholed as the composer of "West Side Story", Leonard Bernstein wrote his "Serenade" as a "serious" concert piece -- but this vibrant work still crackles with his jazzy, distinctly American style. Now violinist Anne Akiko Meyers returns to Schermerhorn Symphony Center to perform as soloist on Bernstein's virtuosic work, alongside the celebrated Nashville Symphony. The orchestra will also play Renaissance composer Giovanni Gabrieli's richly inventive "Fanfare", which showcases the Nashville Symphony brass, and Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony, composed in 1953, the year that Stalin died.
